309A Electrician – Construction, Maintenance and Industrial

Duties include:

 

Job-Related Skills, Interests and Values Include:

  • Reading and interpreting drawings and electrical code specifications.
  • Splicing and connecting wire to fixtures and components to form circuits.
  • Testing and troubleshooting circuits to ensure that systems operate safely.
  • Pulling wire through conduits (channel, pipe) and through openings in walls and floors.
  • Effectively communicating with supervisors and other skilled tradespeople.
  • Working on a variety of different projects and tasks.

 

Pre-Requisites and Requirements of Training:

  • Education requirement from the Ministry is Grade 10 or the equivalent. Employers prefer high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Approximately 9,000 hours of experience are required. These hours include on-the-job and in-class training. Once completed, the apprentice may attempt the examination to earn the Certificate of Qualification.

 

Wage Rate:

Wages increase with skill and experience. Fully qualified workers earn an average of $23-$40 per hour.
